It was October 15, 1976 when [lastfm]Tina Turner[/lastfm] walked away from her husband and musical partner [lastfm]Ike Turner[/lastfm] with 36 cents in her pocket. She eventually got on her feet, divorced Ike, took on his debt, and most important to her, kept the Turner name that she earned on the road. After a couple of unsuccessful solo albums, Tina made one of the greatest comebacks in music history with the 1984 album, Private Dancer, yielding her only number one hit, “What’s Love Got To Do With It.”
Tina stopped by WNEW in April of 1993, just two months before the release of What’s Love Got To Do With It, the critically acclaimed movie about her career and relationship with Ike that was based on her book I Tina (which she wrote with Kurt Loder).
