Ziggy Stardust fans: the wait is over. After nearly a decade without no new material, a 1975 documentary from Bowie’s Diamond Dogs days just surfaced. Titled Cracked Actor, the 50-minute BBC documentary is available to watch free right now on Vimeo — or you can watch it below!
Among the live performances and interviews, you see Bowie driving through the desert in a limo and drinking from a half gallon carton of milk with a fly in it (and then likening himself to that fly).
Bowie’s fashion statements include posing in a belly shirt while being interviewed at a gas station. He also goes through a giant pile of his clothing from Japan for one of his characters, Aladdin Sane. Bowie unearths a big robe with flowers… must see stuff!
In addition to rare footage from ’74′s Diamond Dogs performances and fan perspectives, Cracked Actor offers a glimpse into Bowie’s cocaine-consumed mind on the road, in various hotel rooms and back stage.
The interviews show a remarkably intimate profile of Bowie as he discusses his songwriting methods, schizophrenic stage presence Aladdin Sane, and general discomfort with becoming a rock star.
Bonus: watch a David Bowie live version of his classic song “Space Oddity”:
