VH1 isn’t what it used to be…there are lots of reality shows and very little videos. That’s all about to change according to NYMag.com.
When we watched VH1 from January 1, 1985 on, we watched for the videos that were too old (demographically) for MTV to play. But, it was all about the music. No reality tv, no game shows…just music. Well, after the years, things evolved and many of the types of videos we used to watch had nowhere to go to get exposure.
Do you remember the old show, “Pop Up Videos”? The show played videos, and little bubbles would pop up and give artist info, trivia, concert dates, witty witticisms, and borderline sexual innuendo. They were actually (officially) called, “info nuggets”.
The show premiered in October of 1996, and ran for six years. For two years it was the highest rated program on VH1, until it was overtaken by “Behind The Music”. The last regularly scheduled show aired on August 8, 2002. Well, here’s the good news…IT’S COMING BACK!
“Pop Up Videos” are scheduled to return to the VH1 Fall lineup. There are 60 new
Let’s remember though…all these music genres have evolved and given way to newer and more varied other styles which won’t air on the show. All that aside, since music videos aren’t as ubiquitous as they once were, we should be happy to see them almost anywhere, anymore.
Just imagine the return of the little “bloop” bubble…I can’t wait to read what they’ve written now!
