Over the weekend, a 19-year-old Texas man, Lyle Monroe Bensley, was arrested for breaking into a Galveston woman’s apartment and trying to suck her blood. He was found by police in the apartment complex parking lot, clad only in his boxer shorts, hissing and proclaiming that he needed to “feed”.

Bensley is currently sitting in the Galveston County Jail awaiting trial. The woman, who lived near Bensley but did not know him, escaped unharmed.

With the current vampire craze in pop culture, including Twilight, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries and this weekend’s release of the Fright Night remake, it’s conceivable that incidents like this may become more frequent.

These incidents are hardly anything new though. You may recall the horrendous story of the “Vampire Clan” who killed a Lake County couple in the fall of 1996. That case was turned into the movie Vampire Clan, which was released in 2002.
