Oh no, not again?!  Yes, yes again.  There’s another protest being mounted against Hollywood’s latest lightning rod for controversy…Mel Gibson, according to TMZ.com.

There are two very powerful Jewish based organizations that have launched new protests against Mel Gibson relating to his latest movie role.

He’s about to play biblical Jewish hero Judah Maccabee in a new film and The Anti-Defamation League is not all too happy about it.

They are demanding that Warner Brothers pull the proverbial rug out from under Gibson on this one, saying, “As a hero of the Jewish people and a universal hero in the struggle for religious liberty, Judah Maccabee deserves better,” continuing, “It would be a travesty to have the story of the Maccabees told by one who has no respect and sensitivity for other people’s religious views.”

You may recall that there was a backlash during the release and run of Gibson’s film, “The Passion of The Christ”.  Much of it coming from the Jewish community as well.

TMZ spoke to the founder and Dean of the Simon Wiesenthal Center, Rabbi Marvin Hier, who said that having Mel Gibson portray Judah Maccabee is, “like having a white supremacist portray Martin Luther King Jr.”

For our non-Jewish readers, Judah was an important character in the story of Hanukkah.  He was the brave warrior who drove enemies of Judaism out of Jerusalem.

Oy vey Mel.
