Rolling Stone is reporting that [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Lionel Richie[/lastfm] will be honored today at Harvard with the Peter J. Gomes Humanitarian Award, an annual prize for philanthropic work bestowed by the Harvard Foundation, for co-writing the benefit song We Are The World.
The group anthem that was originally recorded in 1985 for hunger victims in Africa and later reprised in 2010 as a benefit for Haiti earthquake victims was only one of the philanthropic works cited in bestowing Richie with honor. He is also being recognized for his breast cancer research advocacy.
