An actress best known for her role in the film Seven Brides for Seven Brothers, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Jane Powell[/lastfm] scored her lone Top-40 hit in 1956 with a cover of [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Bing Crosby[/lastfm]‘s “True Love.”

Bing Crosby crooned “True Love” to Grace Kelly in 1954, in the film High Society. Two years later, the Portland-born Jane Powell recorded the[lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Cole Porter[/lastfm] tune for Decca, nabbing a #15 hit in October 1956. With the rock and roll overthrow of the pop charts in the wind, Powell wisely kept her focus on acting, never landing again on the Top 40.

Now 82, Powell is living in Connecticut with her husband, former child actor Dick Moore, and still working, most recently as a guest host of Turner Movie Classics this past summer.
