The National MS Society Mid Florida Chapter provides referrals, financial assistance, literature, self help groups, advocacy, and educational programs to people with MS and their family and friends, and raises funds to locally to support the National MS Society’s research initiatives. Two of their most important annual fundraisers, the MS Walk and Bike MS, are coming up in the next few weeks, and it’s not too late to get involved.
SUNNY Across Central Florida host Felix Albuerne spoke to Jim O’Brien, Director of Programs and Services for the MS Society Mid Florida Chapter, about the upcoming fundraisers as well as the variety of services provided to those suffering from multiple sclerosis as well as their families. In particular, Jim spoke about the need to promote connectedness within the affected population – since multiple sclerosis is a disease that limits and diminishes connectedness between the nerves in a person’s brain and their bodies, much of the Society’s work focuses on developing and maintaining empowerment through connectedness in other areas of life.
