Despite the fact that two years ago Sylvester Stallone said that he was tired of bringing back the character of Rambo, he’s now apparently going to do a Rambo 5, according to avclub.com.
Conan The Barbarian writer Sean Hood said in a tweet that he’s “on hold” awaiting Stallone’s completion of the latest chapter in the Expendables saga, in order to work on the (what many are saying will be) last Rambo film.
Though Hood had said that Sly “hasn’t decided if R5 will be an ‘Unforgiven’ or a ‘passing of the torch,'” he admits that it WILL be done.
Reports are that Stallone, who said he was out of any further Rambo flicks has decided to commit to the project and is ready to go. The question…whether it will be shot in the U.S. or possibly (rumored) Mexico or Bulgaria.
Supposedly, the plot takes the uncompromising John Rambo into Mexico. Stallone said, “I’m dying to do another Rambo. He’s in Arizona on the border. It will involve him going into Mexico. I don’t think Rambo likes Mexicans.”
Though Stallone built the franchise, it’s really up to Lionsgate to either continue the series with or without Stallone or just kill the war hero altogether. The latter a possibility according to some insiders. Yes, that’s the story line, Rambo may just be killed off prior to the “handing off” of the proverbial baton.
Lionsgate has shown a penchant for milking every last drop out of many of their sequel/franchise films, so, there’s question about the accuracy of that opinion.
