The “Change Your Life Challenge” is a new initiative by Florida Hospital Volusia/Flagler meant to challenge and encourage people in Central Florida to commit to better health now and in the future by taking steps to ensure that health. In particular, they’re out to educate and inform the public about cancer and the importance of early detection and screenings in the fight against all forms of cancer – the more you know and understand about early detection, screenings, and symptoms, the better equipped you’ll be to be preventative. After all, the best way to beat cancer is to avoid it entirely, or to catch it early!
In the first of a four-part series of interviews, SUNNY Across Central Florida host Felix Albuerne spoke to Dr. Tanam Ahmed of Florida Hospital Flagler about breast cancer and breast cancer screenings. In particular, Dr. Ahmed talked about risk factors associated with breast cancer and some of the anxieties that women still feel when faced with the potential discomfort of a breast cancer screening. Dr. Ahmed also discussed the level of education and awareness that currently exists within the public in regards to breast cancer, and how that awareness is a important factor behind the steady decrease of mortality rates due to breast cancer since 1990. Finally, Dr. Ahmed described the tremendous attention and resources that Florida Hospital Volusia/Flagler devotes to women’s health and preventative care.
