Q: On this date in 2004, Irish actor Pierce Brosnan ended months of speculation by telling Entertainment Weekly that he would not be returning to the 007 franchise of films after his fourth outing as James Bond in 2002′s Die Another Day. Brosnan was the fifth actor to portray 007 in the “official” film franchise, beginning his stint with 1995′s Goldeneye, but he was a favorite of 007 producer Albert R. Broccoli to take over the role from Roger Moore to take on the role as early as 1980. In 1986, Moore officially retired after A View to a Kill, and the stage was set for Brosnan to take up Double-O status, but he was unable to take on the role due to contractual obligations with another gig. Name the hit NBC television series whose ties to Brosnan kept him from taking on the role of James Bond in the 1980s.
