The 5th Annual Sam Swope Charity Ride for Shriners Hospital for Children® will be held on March 19, 2013, and this year, one of the leaders of the pack will be 1059 SUNNY FM’s one and only Rick Stacy! Rick and the other riders participating in the event will make the 40-mile ride from Bahia Shrine Temple in Orlando, to Seminole Harley Davidson in Sanford, Fla. After the ride, participants will enjoy food, music, door prizes, silent and live auctions. Net proceeds from the event go directly to Shriners Hospital for Children – Tampa, which provides a full spectrum of orthopedic care services and cares for over 17,000 children each year.
SUNNY Across Central Florida host Felix Albuerne spoke to Shriners member and Sam Swope Charity Ride Sponsorships Team Leader Richard Mattern about the Sam Swope Charity Ride and other topics relating to the efforts of Shriners International to help children and families around the world. Specifically, Richard talked about what it means to be a Shriner, how membership works, and how the organization views itself and its mission. Richard also spoke about daily and weekly events at the Bahia Shrine, and how the work of Shriners in Central Florida can be seen locally. Finally, Richard talked about the charity ride and all that participants could expect to take part in during the course of the day.
