Rick and I are little kids when it comes to Halloween! When SUNNY FM listener and owners of the Orlando Haunted Maze, George and Sara Dees Goldstein, asked us to visit a homemade haunted house, Rick and I were intrigued. Actually, I think we took it as competition since we both think we do a pretty good job of decorating for Halloween. Boy, were we wrong! We decorate. The Orlando Haunted Maze bleeping scares you!
Being in the media we are spoiled by seeing all the professional haunted houses which are impeccably done! Love them. What makes the Orlando Haunted Maze different? It’s done by local people who enjoy Halloween so much they want to share that love with others who enjoy the holiday. The owner has been creating OHM for ten years. I asked about his neighbors he said, “They’re very supportive!” What’s the turn out Halloween night? George said OHM easily is 800 to 900 people deep in line.
Rick and Angie had a blast as well and rumor has it Rick was so scared he didn’t want to take a picture!
As you wait for your group to enter, the “gate keeper” gives you a little back story to prepare you for your adventure. Keep your fingers crossed you make it out the other side. While waiting in line, you have plenty of scary characters to keep you on your toes. One really freaked me out because I thought it was another animatronic but then it started walking towards me making weird noises. Check out the pic! Honestly wouldn’t that freak you out if you thought it didn’t move and then it did?
George says everyone involved in the Orlando Haunted Maze are volunteers and they are always looking for people who love Halloween and scaring people as much as they do. You have to admit, scaring people is an art form itself! If it’s something you’d like to be a part of, give George a call at 407-456-9999. One more point, and this is one is important, each year OHM selects a charity to donate funds from ticket sales and this year George and the OHM crew voted on one of my all time favorite local charities, The Ronald McDonald Houses of Central Florida!
Make plans to visit the Orlando Haunted Maze and help out RMHCF at the same time. OHM is open each Friday and Saturday from 7:30 pm to 11:30 pm and Halloween weekend is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday 7:00 pm to midnight. Check out Orlando Haunted House Facebook page for more info and pictures.
Here’s a bit more from our night of fun and frolic (okay, really fear, but I didn’t want to make Rick feel like a lightweight). Have a fun Halloween!
