Walmart To Begin Selling Cars

It used to be that you’d go to your local Walmart to get clothes, shoes, electronics or housewares, school supplies and the like.  Then they created the neighborhood grocery store, much like our Publix, or Winn-Dixies.

But now…they’ve gone even further than that.

Last year the world’s largest retailer ran a pilot program in Stuart, Florida, a small town not too far south of the Ft Pierce/Port St. Lucie area.  That test was to see if they would be able to add automobiles to their product list.  After a year, they determined that approximately 80% of the people who were interested in and spoke to the store about a purchase, actually DID buy a car.

According to a report from Automotive News, Walmart will begin to sell vehicles in the Southwestern United States at 25 locations through an affiliation with CarSaver.  Staffers from CarSaver worked kiosks during the test period and answered any questions potential purchasers had.  They were also assisted in applying for an auto loan through Ally and even insurance as well.

Once the buyer has looked at the potential options, decided on which car to buy, has their loan and insurance taken care of, the CarSaver employee will direct them to a dealership within 15 miles of that specific Walmart store.

By the way, buyers also saved approximately $3,000 off the listed sticker price through the Walmart plan.

So, that begs the question in today’s Paco Poll…take it now and tell us what YOU think.
