When the original version of The Beguiled came out in 1971 (it was based on the 1966 novel A Painted Devil by Thomas P. Cullinan), it was a change of pace role for Clint Eastwood. As a wounded Union solider, saved and then toyed with by the inhabitants of a secluded girls school, it allowed Eastwood to truly stretch his acting legs (and if you’ve seen the movie, you know there’s a pun in there).
Now, a new version of The Beguiled is being readied for release on June 23rd, starring Nicole Kidman and Colin Farrell in the role made famous by Eastwood. The film is directed by Sofia Coppola, daughter of Francis Ford Coppola, director of The Godfather films.
