Not quite a month from opening day, Orlando City Soccer Club is gearing up by finishing up construction on their new downtown, soccer exclusive stadium; getting ready to unveil their 2017 jersey; holding Q & A sessions with ownership and their head coach Jason Kreis; and working on deals to strengthen our roster spots.
On Friday, February 17th, you can join coach Kreis and owners Flávio Augusto da Silva and Phil Rawlins at Wall Street Plaza for a Fan Forum from 6-8pm for a question and answer event. You’ll also get an opportunity to not only see, but, purchase the new jerseys.
Then the following Friday, you’ll be able to see the new 25,500 seat soccer exclusive downtown stadium up close and personal. On the 24th, Mayor Buddy Dyer will represent the City Beautiful as he and ownership cut the ribbon and welcome community leaders and business owners to visit the facility, and even try the concessions (as they’ll be open to the public) during the day.
Also, when you look down on the field, you may see some new players on the pitch. Coach Kreis and the team have already made changes to 23% of the roster from last year, likely in order to execute his game plan more effectively by having the “right players” on the roster to do so.
Remember, last year we missed the post-season by only one win. This year we believe that with Kreis’ leadership and the players needed, we’ll be a playoff team.
Opening night will be March 5th, versus NYC FC…the very team that released Coach Kreis barely a year ago. We beat them last season 2-1 just weeks after Kreis came on board. We expect to do the same on on the 5th. Can you say…”motivation?!”
Make sure you listen every Friday this season for Offsides & Off Center, which will cover Orlando City Soccer and all the excitement of the season in the 8am hour, on the Rick Stacy show, only on 1059 Sunny FM!
It promises to be an exciting upcoming season. Go Lions!
