Today In Music History: 02/09/17

The Beatles made their live U.S. television debut  on  “The Ed Sullivan Show” on this day in 1964. Ed read a telegram from Elvis during the program.

Speaking of the Fab Four, on this day in 1972, Paul McCartney debuted his new band Wings on stage with a surprise performance at England’s Nottingham University.

Same year, same day, “Let’s Stay Together” by Al Green was the #1 song.

Let’s jump to 1979, when UB40 gave their first professional performance at a pub in their hometown of Birmingham, England.

On this day in 1981, rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Bill Haley died after a heart attack at 55.

Prince released the single “Little Red Corvette” on this day in 1983.  It became his first Top 10 hit.

On this day in 1985 Phil Collins released “Sussudio. He recorded the song in his living room and the name is made up. Many years later his oldest daughter got a horse and named it Sussudio.

He was the last of the Beatles to get a solo star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. It was on this day in 2012 that Paul McCartney got his.
