John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John To Reprise Their “Grease” Roles

Summer Lovin’ Happened So Fast…and so has the passing of 40 years since “Grease” hit the big screen. Which is why there are talks that John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John are going to bring Danny and Sandy back in some sort of reunion.

According to sources, next year’s four decade celebration will not go unnoticed, as the two biggest stars of the 1978 high school epic will somehow reunite to breathe life back into the two characters that both young boys and girls were so drawn to.

I was a senior in high school when I lost my mind during the last scene of the film when Sandy appeared in black leather to surprise Danny. She surprised most of the guys I knew as well. That was the very moment when ONJ became a “sex symbol.”

So, let’s reflect for a moment. What would Sandy be doing at the age of 68? Remember also, that Danny (her junior) is now 63 himself.

Would they play college professors, to their respective characters’ grandkids? Would they be retired and have grandchildren in high school themselves? Would they have been married all these years, or would they have gone separate ways? All these scenarios would make for interesting fodder around a writer’s table as they lay out the groundwork for the “re-connection.”

Olivia Newton-John recently was in Las Vegas and received the Icon Award at the Fame Awards at Hard Rock Live in Sin City. When asked about the reprisal, she commented, “We are thinking up ways. Nothing to announce yet.” She continued, “…[its the] Forty years anniversary of Grease, which I can’t believe. Time goes so fast. It is so exciting.”

One thing Ms. John has been mulling, is retirement. However, she says that for the past 20 years she’s been considering it and hasn’t because someone always offers her something and she cannot refuse the “gig.”

Though the general public isn’t aware of her contributions on the Vegas strip. ONJ has performed dozens of times and even enjoyed a residency at the world famous Tropicana for a while.

The Grease budget was about $5 million, and the film generated almost $400 million dollars and thrust Olivia Newton-John into the global limelight.

Fans around the globe would rejoice over nearly any type of reunion between the two and any other cast members they could convince to join the Rydell High alumni.

It just goes to show…that in a (Hollywood) world where it seems that reboots, remakes, & sequels seem to the the standard…GREASE could STILL be the word!
