When an NFL official “throws a flag” that’s one thing. However, the City of Orlando is throwing a flag on the flag. Actually, it’s more like throwing in the towel on the flag.
Though flags can represent countries, states, organizations, clubs, fraternities, sororities, your favorite sports team, an alma mater, most people don’t realize that they can even the city you live in. Yes, cities have flags as well! Most Orlandoans wouldn’t know the city flag without having to look it up on line. Seems like someone noticed.
Orlando created their city flag back in the 1980s, and it looks that way. It may have been “cool” back then…but, things change, times change, and the city flag has not. Well, times have caught up.
Recently, the city decided that it was time to welcome The City Beautiful into the 21st Century with a new flag to represent O-town.
So, the City of Orlando were open enough to accept submissions from you. There were 950 submissions from around the world that came in.
Now city officials have narrowed it down to the Top 10, and THEY want YOU to select the winner from the ten on the city’s website.
If you’d like to vote, you can make one vote, per entry, per day.
After the voting closes, the Flag Design Review Committee will meet to review voting results and make their final recommendation to City Council for the final decision.
You can vote now through April 17th at midnight here.
We’ll keep you posted.
