Today In Music History: 04/24/17

We have a couple of cool birthdays Today in Music History. Kelly Clarkson, who won American Idol, while I was broadcasting from her High School’s gym when she did, is turning 35 today.  The great Barbara Streisand is 75. Since I was the first Dj to ever play this song enjoy…….

On this day in 1966, The Dave Clark Five performed “Catch Us If You Can” on “The Ed Sullivan Show.”

Apple Records declined an opportunity to sign David Bowie on this day in 1968. Also in 1968, at age 66, Louis Armstrong was the oldest act ever to score a #1 hit in the UK with the song “What A Wonderful World.”

On this day in 1979, Georgia Governor George Busbee issued a proclamation declaring “Georgia On My Mind,” to be the new official state song. At the ceremony, Ray Charles sang his famous version of it.

On this day in 1980 “Call Me” by Blondie was the #1 song.

Let’s jump to this day in 1989. Tom Petty released his first solo album, “Full Moon Fever.” I know most people go nuts for “Free Fallin,'” I personally like this one better…..

And let’s get some more Bowie. It was on this day in 1992, that he married fashion model Iman.
