On this day in 1970, Freda Payne released the million selling single “Band of Gold.”

More fab four news. On this day in 1981, Paul McCartney, who was reluctant to tour because of death threats he was receiving in the wake of John Lennon’s murder, decided to disband Wings.

The Fender Stratocaster guitar on which Jimi Hendrix played the U.S. national anthem at the 1969 Woodstock Festival was sold by a London auction house for $295,000 on this day in 1990.

On this day in 1994, after 14 years apart, the Eagles re-formed for two reunion concerts, recorded for the album “Hell Freezes Over.”

Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, a member of the group TLC, died from injuries suffered in a car accident on this day in 2002, she was 30.

On this day in 2007, the man that gave us the “Monster Mash,” Bobby “Boris” Pickett, died of leukemia at the age of 69.
