Jonathan Demme, who is probably best known for the 1991 Oscar-winner Silence of the Lambs, has died at age 73. According to Variety, Demme died of cancer complications.
Additionally, Demme helmed many other great American film classics including Philadelphia (1993), Melvin and Howard (1980), Swing Shift (1984), Something Wild (1986) and Married to the Mob (1988). His final dramatic feature was Ricki and the Flash, starring Meryl Streep, in 2015.
