Today In Music History: 06/02/17

Time to take a walk thru music history before we officially begin the weekend!

On this day in 1965, James Brown released  “Papa’s Got A Brand New Bag.” It was Brown’s first foray into the Billboard Top 10, the song peaked at #8.

It was 50 years ago today that The Beatles released “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” here in North America. Rolling Stone Magazine has the album #1 on their Top 500 Albums of all time.

On this day in 1973,  Electric Light Orchestra started their first U.S. tour.

Bruce Springsteen released “Darkness On The Edge Of Town,” on this day in 1978.

In 1979, Donna Summer started a three week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with “Hot Stuff.”

It’s not really music, but one of my favorite movies that Robin Williams ever did. It was on this day in 1989, that “Dead Poets Society,” opened in Canadian and U.S. movie theaters.

We lost a legend on this day in 2008, when rock ‘n’ roll pioneer Bo Diddley died of heart failure at 79.

And finally on this day in 2010, Randy Newman got his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
