Today In Music History: 06/12/17

We start Today in Music History, on this day in 1963. The Beach Boys recorded “Little Deuce Coupe” and “Surfer Girl.” It was the first time that Brian Wilson took over reins as producer for the group.

Sonny & Cher made their U.S. television debut on this day in 1965, singing “I Got You Babe” on “American Bandstand.”

Let’s jump to 1973, when Grand Funk recorded “We’re An American Band.” Todd Rundgren was called on to produce the rock anthem.

On this day in 1982, nearly a million people crammed into New York’s Central Park for the Rally for Nuclear Disarmament. Performers included Bruce Springsteen, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, and James Taylor. At that time it was the largest political demonstration in American history.

On this day in 1985 “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” by Tears for Fears was the #1 song.

And finally it was on this day in 1990, that Mariah Carey released her self-titled debut album. It has sold over 15 million albums world wide and was nominated for three Grammy Awards.
