Steve Harvey Tells Flint Michigan Listener “Enjoy Your Nice Brown Glass Of Water”

By Paco Lopez

Steve Harvey is a mega star. He is the host of more TV shows than anyone on the small screen right now.

His resume includes Family Feud, Celebrity Family Feud, The Steve Harvey Show, ABC’s new Funderdome, and Little Big Shots.

In addition, he’s written multiple books, has been a successful stand-up comic touring as one of the “Kings of Comedy” and he is the host of his very own daily radio show, the Steve Harvey show.

However, with that much exposure, sometimes comes issues. In 2015 he announced the wrong winner of the Miss Universe Pageant. Though he says, and has shown that (he believes) it was not his fault, many still continue to point the finger at him.

Comedians sometimes also “cross the line” by making comments, or doing things that aren’t funny, and in some cases create issues for their careers. In other cases, it ends their careers. Examples are Michael Richards, Gilbert Gottfried, and most recently Kathy Griffin.

Some are squirming in their seats after Harvey’s comments on his radio program this week. Here’s what happened.

Harvey took a call from a listener in Flint, Michigan who (as a dig) told Harvey that the Cleveland Cavaliers didn’t deserve to win the NBA Championship after their lack luster performance.

The star spent time living and working in both Flint, and Cleveland, and has been openly supporting the Cavs for some time now. Harvey took the comment as a personal attack and was offended to the point that he retaliated by asking the caller, “You from Flint?” The listener recalls that Harvey continued, “That’s why y’all ain’t even got clean water. When was the last time you touched water and it didn’t have lead in it?”

Right after that comment, another listener began to record the show. In the routine you can hear his co-hosts saying, “reel it in.”

By now Harvey was in it hip deep and kept going, “I wasn’t talking about the city of Flint, I was talking about him,” he continued.

Then, nearing the end of the conversation came the “death blow.” Harvey’s parting shot… “one more thing. … Enjoy your nice brown glass of water.”

One issue that makes it an even more serious problem is, just two days ago, Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette announced involuntary manslaughter charges for five officials connected with the Flint water crisis. So far, a total of 15 people have been charged in the crisis.

Always remember to put your brain in gear, before you put your mouth in motion…EVEN if you’re a comic. Loose lips, sink ships…Captain.
