Crayola seems to have the blues. Five of them to be exact. We’re talking about 5 new blue crayon names to choose from.
See the crayon maker had to replace their “dandelion” (yellow) color which was recently “retired.”
It was only the fourth time in the company’s history that they’ve retired a color. The other (previously)retired colors were maize, raw umber and orange yellow. Crayola Crayons were originally produced in 1903 by Binney & Smith Company; that’s one hundred and fourteen years.
Why the “New Blue?” Scientists at Oregon State University accidently discovered a new brilliant blue hue from doing some experimenting with electric technologies.Crayola took 90,000 initial suggestions and have now narrowed it down to the final five.
