In addition to Dylan, Albright, Glenn and Summit, President Obama also bestowed the honor upon author Toni Morrison, former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, Girl Scouts founder Juliette Gordon Low, former President of Israel Shimon Peres, former assistant attorney general John Doar, former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention William Foege, Gordon Hirabayashi, who fought the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War II, Jan Karski, a resistance fighter against the Nazi occupation of Poland during World War II, and co-founder of the National Farmworkers Association Dolores Huerta.

Dylan, who provided a voice for the counterculture during the turbulent 1960s, is the latest musician to receive the award. Notable artists from the past include Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, B. B. King and Frank Sinatra.

Testimony from former members of the band Boston describe a turbulent relationship between lead singer Brad Delp and band founder Tom Scholz, a relationship many of Delp’s friends and family believe contributed to Delp’s suicide in March 2007.

The testimonies are part of a defamation suit filed by Scholz against the Boston Herald for suggesting he was a contributing (if not the main) factor in Delp’s decision to take his own life. Scholz claims the Herald’s 2007 article discussing Delp’s suicide blame him for the death and have caused him significant emotional distress. The Boston Herald maintains it reported the facts and opinions presented by Delp’s friends and family accurately.

Scholz said he “had a very personal connection” with Delp and that the two were friends for more than 30 years.

However, nearly 20 former band mates and friends of Delp testified regarding his relationship with Scholz, several of which painting a bleak picture of the two’s interactions.

“[Delp] didn’t like Tom. He didn’t trust Tom,” said former Boston bass player David Sikes. “He felt that Tom had taken advantage of him financially, especially.”

Former Boston bassist Fran Sheenan said Delp referred to himself as a “wimp” and told Sheenan that he “just couldn’t stand up to him [Scholz] anymore.” Sheenan said Delp worried he could not quit the band without facing threats and legal action from Scholz.

Former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau recalled Scholz’s constant belittling of Delp and other band mates. According to court documents summarized by Boston Herald lawyers, Goudreau wrote Scholz less than a week after Delp’s death.

“Tom, I don’t even know where to begin. I can’t explain the pain and suffering you have caused me and my family, Brad and his family,” Goudreau wrote. “Tom, you abused Brad … We could not keep it under wraps forever.”

Scholz has until June 30 to respond to the testimonies. His lawyers argue Delp’s uncontrolled depression stemming from domestic disputes (including his future sister-in-law finding a hidden camera in her room at Delp’s home and his fiancée’s affair a year earlier) were motivating factors that contributed to his suicide.

The original crypt that housed the body of Elvis Presley and his mother Gladys following Elvis’ death in 1977 will be auctioned off at Julien’s Auctions in Beverly Hills as part of the “Music Icons” auction from June 23-24.

But isn’t Elvis buried at Graceland? Yes, Elvis and his mother were buried permanently at his Memphis homestead Graceland – two months after his death. While Elvis’ his father waited for approval from the state of Tennessee to bury the Presleys at Graceland, Elvis was laid to rest in the tomb that’s up for sale, inside a granite and marble mausoleum at Memphis’ Forest Hill Cemetery.

Darren Julien, the president of Julien’s Auctions, called into Los Angeles station K-EARTH this morning (May 29) to explain just how he was able to get a hold of the King’s crypt.

“We were contacted by the cemetery to sell it,” Julien says. “Basically it’s been shut empty since Elvis was in it however many years ago. He was laid to rest there when he first passed and then they had to get permits from the state to bury him on Graceland.”

Julien explains that he didn’t have to get the family’s permission to sell Elvis’ crypt since the cemetery owns the tomb.

“It’s a chance of a lifetime for one person somewhere to have the bragging rights to say that they are going to be entombed where Elvis Presley was,” Julien says. “We’re getting a lot of response actually… people are dying to get into it.”

If you want to jump at the chance of lying in the King’s tomb for eternity, it will cost you a pretty penny. The starting bid is set at $100,000, but Julien estimates it to reach a steep price. The price tag also includes opening and closing of the crypt, a memorial inscription, and the use of a chapel for committal services. It should be noted that the tomb’s next owner will not be able to move the crypt out of Memphis’ Forest Hill Cemetery.

If buying Elvis’ tomb is a little too morbid for your taste, Julien’s “Music Icons” auction (June 23-24) will feature more than 900 items owned by artists, ranging from The Beatles to Whitney Houston.

You may remember that when Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” was released a little over a year ago, Madonna and Gaga fans, as well as the artists themselves, got into a battle of not so tough words regarding the originality of Gaga’s title track. Madonna even referred to it as “reductive” of her own work, basically acknowledging in the nicest way possible that she felt ripped off.

Here’s your definition of “coming full circle” for today: Madonna was recently videoed while rehearsing for her new tour in Tel Aviv, Israel and what was caught on film may surprise you. It seems as though Madge will be performing a mash-up of Gaga’s “Born This Way” and her own “Express Yourself” complete with some Gaga-esque motorcycle sound effects.

The kicker here, the clip ends with some of Madonna’s 2008 track “She’s Not Me.”
